BASKET WEAVE BABY BLANKET

I made this blanket (and matching hat and booties) for Lukas. I really like the basket weave stitch, so I thought I would share it. Please keep in mind that this is my very first attempt at writing a crochet pattern. Please click on the "Read more" link below to view pattern.
Finished size: approx. 30 inches x 36 inches



MATERIALS
Bernat Baby Sport, light (3) worsted yarn. I used approximately 420 g of Popsicle Blue Ombre (or about 1.5 skeins).
5.5 mm hook.
5.0 mm hook for the last row of the border.
Yarn needle to weave in the ends.


GAUGE
2 x 2 squares of basket weave = 8 stitches x 6 rows = approx. 2 x 2 inches

ABBREVIATIONS
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
FPdc = front post double crochet
BPdc = back post double crochet
st(s) = stitch(es)

SPECIAL STITCHES
The Crochet Crowd has a very good tutorial video on creating the basket weave stitches.

INSTRUCTIONS
Ch 120.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook. Dc in each chain to the end. Ch 2. Turn. (116 dc, not counting 1st ch 3.)
Row 2: *FPdc in each of next 4 sts, BPdc in each of next 4 sts*. Repeat* to last 4 stiches, FPdc in last 4 st. Hdc in chain. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 3: *BPdc in each of next 4 sts, FPdc in each of next 4 sts*. Repeat* to last 4 stiches, BPdc in last 4 st. Hdc in chain. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 4: *FPdc in each of next 4 sts, BPdc in each of next 4 sts*. Repeat* to last 4 stiches, FPdc in last 4 st. Hdc in chain. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 5: *FPdc in each of next 4 sts, BPdc in each of next 4 sts*. Repeat* to last 4 stiches, FPdc in last 4 st. Hdc in chain. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 6: *BPdc in each of next 4 sts, FPdc in each of next 4 sts*. Repeat* to last 4 stiches, BPdc in last 4 st. Hdc in chain. Ch 2. Turn.
Row 7: *FPdc in each of next 4 sts, BPdc in each of next 4 sts*. Repeat* to last 4 stiches, FPdc in last 4 st. Hdc in chain. Ch 2. Turn.
Repeat rows 2 to 7 until blanket measures 35 inches. (Approximately 29 x 34 squares in total).


FINISHING
Row 1: Sc around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. Ch 1. TURN.
Row 2: Sc around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. Ch 2. TURN.
Row 3: Dc in each st, making 3 dc in each corner. Join. Ch 1. TURN.
Row 4: *Sc in next 3 st, [2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc] in same stitch*. Repeat* around. Join. Fasten off.
Note: I used 5 mm hook for round 4 of border.
